HomeLIFE: Parenting

Equipping Parents

As a parent, God has given you the responsibility to lead your children spiritually. (Read that line again, just in case you missed it). The words in Deuteronomy 6 are instructions to parents, directing them to be intentional in the lives of their children to talk about and point their children toward God.

Even the best children’s or youth ministry programming cannot replace your role as a parent. The church is not primary in training your children to follow Jesus. You are God’s plan for that. The conversations you have with your children, and the example you set for them as you follow after Jesus, are critical. The church can and should support, encourage and equip you in that role, but the church can never replace you. The parent is the “A-team” and the church is always the “B team”.

Ultimately, the Holy Spirit will equip you as a parent. None of us is perfect, and we all need God’s daily guidance as a parent. At First Free, we want to offer help and encouragement. We do this in several ways:

  • HomeLIFE seminars
  • Staff members available to offer support
  • Sunday morning adult classes that address parenting
  • Books and pamphlets in the church library
  • Links to great resources on the web
