Haiti Relief

On January 12, Haiti suffered a devastating earthquake. There are overwhelming needs everywhere and not enough resources or people to meet them. The immediate needs are for food, water, and medical care and for people to deliver them. We cannot all go to Haiti; but we can support those who can and we can supply them with what they need to do the job. As the family of God, we desire to supply these needs in the name of Jesus and to provide comfort and hope to Haitians who are wounded and hurting. Would you consider what God would have you do to help? Below you’ll find a few ways to get involved.

  • Give directly to Haiti Earthquake Relief on the EFCA website to supply much needed funds. The EFCA’s TouchGlobal will be working through local Haitian churches to provide both safe havens for refugees and medical care for wounded.
  • When you give in the offering at First Free, write “Haiti Relief” in the memo line. These funds will be allocated by the Outreach Ministry where the funds are needed most, with some of the resources going to our long-time ministry partners in LaGonave, an island 40 miles west of mainland Haiti. You may also give online using your MyFIRSTFREE login.
  • If you are a medical professional (especially in orthopedics, anesthesiology, or emergency medicine, or a nurse in one of those fields), contact haitirelief@efree.org to find out how you can be a part of a medical missions team to Haiti.
  • If you have supervisory construction skills and could help fill the gap in the New Orleans relief effort which has been created by sending aid workers to Haiti, please contact haitirelief@efree.org and let us know. By helping in New Orleans, you would be helping Haiti as well as the people of New Orleans.
  • Please continue to pray. Pray for the injured and hurting and for those who are working tirelessly to bring them aid and comfort. Pray also that in the midst of this tragedy, people will be drawn to a faith in Christ as they see Christians working to bring aid and comfort.

This is an opportunity for us to serve hurting people in practical ways, demonstrating and sharing God’s love. Our prayer is that we will all do something, no matter how small. And together, we’ll see God’s hand at work.
