The Pastor of Family Ministries is responsible for overseeing and leading First Free’s ministry to children, teens, and parents. Our ideal candidate is a gifted leader who is passionate about developing other leaders, building leadership teams, and giving ministry away.

Job Description:

The Pastor of Family Ministries is responsible for overseeing and leading First Free’s ministry to children, teens, and parents. This includes leadership development, coaching, budgeting, and overseeing several key staff members in each ministry area.

The ideal candidate must be a committed follower of Jesus who demonstrates an authentic walk with God and consistent spiritual disciplines. They must be a gifted leader passionate about developing other leaders, building leadership teams, and giving ministry away.

They should also be experienced in leading a large family ministry and developing leaders who build strong leadership teams and equip more leaders. They should understand and implement leadership pipeline principles to build a strong bench of future leaders who are intentionally trained for ministry.

This position is a full-time, salaried position of approximately 50 hours per week and reports directly to the Senior Pastor.

The First Free Church staff are structured in four ministry channels (Service Planning, Family Ministries, Discipleship, and Operations), each led by an executive pastor. The four executive pastors are part of the Senior Leadership Team led by the Senior Pastor. The Family Ministries channel includes Kid Connection (children birth to fifth grade), Student Ministries (students in grades 6-12), and accompanying ministry to parents. These ministries operate under the umbrella of Family ministries with shared vision, purpose, and training.

Within the Family Ministries channel are the following staff positions:

  • Student Ministries Worship Leader (part-time)
  • Student Ministries Administrative Assitant (part-time)
  • Student Ministries Interns (part-time, number varies)
  • Children’s Ministry
    • Team Lead (part-time)
    • Administrative Assistant (part-time)
    • Elementary Coordinator (full-time)
    • Nursery and Preschool Supervisor (part-time)
    • Children’s Ministry Administrative Assistant (part-time)
    • KC Friends Coordinator (part-time)
    • Childcare Supervisor (part-time)
Overall Leadership 
  • Champion the doctrine, mission, and vision of First Free Church.
  • Oversee the Family Ministries staff including Student Ministries and Kid Connection.
  • Lead Family Ministries to function in a support and collaborative role to all other ministries of the church as needed.
  • Collaborate with Family Ministries staff to set and manage annual goals for the Family Ministries channel.
  • Oversee the budgets for Family Ministries.
  • Recruit and develop the necessary teams to carry out the amily ministries of First Free Church.
  • Develop opportunities to provide training and support for parents.
  • Other responsibilities and tasks as assigned by the Senior Pastor.
Student Ministries
  • Provide vision and guidance in Senior High and Junior High Ministry.
  • Identify opportunities for students to serve and connect with the church body as a whole.
Kid Connection
  • Oversee the Kid Connection staff in creating a children’s ministry that offers dynamic programming, sound teaching, and outreach events that share the Gospel with kids at First Free and in our community and get kids and parents excited about being here.
Character and Commitment

  • Affirms and supports the First Free Church Statement of Faith and doctrinal positions.
  • Practices personal evangelism and disciple-making.
  • Has a strong relationship with God including regular time in Bible study and prayer.
  • Commitment to participate in a discipleship group at First Free Church.
  • Passionate about family ministries.
  • Practices personal leadership, growth, and life-long learning.
  • Able to recruit, train, and develop volunteer teams and leadership teams.
  • Shows tremendous initiative and self-motivation.
  • Warm and personable demeanor that connects well with all kinds of people.
  • Energetic and optimistic because of a personal daily walk with Jesus.
  • A team player with a positive attitude who thrives in a collaborative environment.
  • Commitment to faithful giving according to biblical principles.
  • Commitment to follow the guidelines and policies outlined in the First Free Employee Handbook.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Experience leading a large family ministry and a track record for developing leaders.
  • A degree in an applicable area or equivalent work experience.
  • A seminary degree is a bonus.
  • Ordained or licensed in the Evangelical Free Church of America or ability to be ordained or licensed.
