Custodian
Job Description:
First Free Church is seeking a dependable, team-oriented Custodian to help steward our campus and support the ministries that happen here each week. This role is vital to ensuring our facilities are clean, safe, and welcoming for worship services, classes, and community events. This position also offers a clear pathway to a Lead Custodian role for individuals who demonstrate strong initiative, reliability, and leadership potential.
The Custodian is responsible for daily cleaning, event setup support, and general facility care across our multi-building campus. This is a hands-on role requiring consistency, attention to detail, and a servant-hearted attitude. This is a full-time, hourly position and may include some evenings and occasional weekends depending on ministry needs.
- Clean and maintain classrooms, offices, restrooms, worship spaces, and common areas
- Vacuum, sweep, mop, dust, disinfect, and restock supplies
- Empty trash and recycling throughout campus buildings
- Assist with event setup and teardown
- Prepare spaces for weekend services and special events
- Follow established custodial procedures and safety standards
- Identify and report maintenance needs or safety concerns
- Assist with seasonal and campus-wide projects
- Work cooperatively with the Facilities team and church staff
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Prior custodial or cleaning experience helpful but not required
- Ability to work independently and follow structured procedures
- Strong work ethic and attention to detail
- Ability to lift up to 40 lbs. and remain active for extended periods
- Dependable, punctual, and team-oriented
- Training new custodial team members
- Assisting with scheduling and daily task coordination
- Supporting quality control and cleaning standards
- Helping oversee supply management and inventory
- Serving as a communication bridge between custodial staff and Facilities leadership
- Leading portions of weekend or event preparation
